Eric D. Banks has been leading the South KC Shotokan Karate since he founded it in February of 1996. Mr. Banks began his training at Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in Kirksville, MO during his freshman year under the instruction of Dr. Robert DelMas, Dr. Lewis Hershey, and Ms. Tracy Clark. After transferring to the Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla), Mr. Banks continued his training and began a club for college students. He later received Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan rankings from Master Hidetaka Nishiyama (9th Dan), first President of the International Traditional Karate Federation and the American Amateur Karate Federation.
In his teaching and interacting with his students, Mr. Banks seeks to help each individual reach their maximum potential. His teaching style is relaxed yet disciplined, and he enjoys using creative methods to explain concepts. He is fortunate to receive guidance from some of the top instructors in the ITKF / AAKF including C. M. Smaby, and T. Shimoji.
